The CERT and First Aid/CPR classes scheduled to be held at Pacoima Charter School beginning the week of January 7th have been cancelled due to lack of minimum registration requirements for groups. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division will reschedule the classes to be held on an undetermined date in June. They are going be held at the station, which will be a more central location with better parking. The 20th anniversary of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake is being commemorated at a ceremony hosted by Councilmember Englander to recognize local community heroes. It will take place Friday, January 17, at 6:00–8:30 am at the Northridge Recreation Center, 10058 Reseda Blvd, Northridge.

Congressman Adam Schiff is holding a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the “Rim of the Valley” on Wednesday, January 22, 6:00 pm, at the Crescenta-Canada YMCA Auditorium, 1930 Foothill Blvd in La Canada-Flintridge. The National Park Service has already provided a recommendation to Congress to create a San Gabriel unit of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Congress passed Schiff’s bill directing the Park Service to conduct a special resource study to determine the possibility of providing federal protection to the “Rim of the Valley”—an area that stretches from the existing Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, through the Simi, Santa Susanna and Verdugo Hills and on to the San Gabriel Mountains.
